How to use
- 1Drop a PNG, JPG, SVG or WebP file into the upload area.
- 2Preview how it looks at 16px, 32px and 180px before exporting.
- 3Download the zip and unzip it into your site’s root directory.
- 4Paste the generated HTML tags into your <head>.
How it works
Browsers ask for a favicon in several places at once: the browser tab (16–32px), a phone home screen (180px on iOS) and the installable web app manifest (192 and 512px). Serving only favicon.ico means the tab icon gets upscaled on high-density screens and iOS falls back to a screenshot of the page. Shipping every size up front avoids all of that.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between a favicon and a logo?
A logo is your full brand mark and can be any shape or size. A favicon is a small, square rendering of it, usually simplified, that browsers show in tabs, bookmark bars and home screens. Detail that reads well at 300px usually turns to mush at 16px, which is why favicons are typically a simplified version rather than a direct resize.
What size should a favicon be?
There is no single size. Provide 16x16 and 32x32 for browser tabs, 180x180 for iOS home screens, and 192x192 plus 512x512 for Android and the web app manifest. The generator exports all of them, plus a multi-frame favicon.ico covering 16, 32 and 48.
Is my image uploaded anywhere?
No. The file is decoded in your browser and drawn onto an offscreen canvas; the ICO container and the zip archive are both assembled locally. Nothing is sent to a server.
Can I turn a PNG, SVG or JPG into a favicon?
Yes — all four accepted formats go through the same pipeline and produce the same icon set, favicon.ico included. An SVG source is rasterised separately at each exported size, so a vector logo stays sharp at 16px and at 512px. JPG works too, though it has no transparency: a square 512x512 source on a solid background gives the cleanest edges.
Why is my favicon not showing up after I upload it?
The most common causes are a cached old icon, files placed somewhere other than the site root, and HTML link tags pointing at paths that 404. Use the Favicon Checker to see what a site actually declares and which icons are missing.
